Network Commission Adjustments: Why, How, and for Whom. An Interview with Ana Oprița (CTO, 2Performant)

Recently, we announced that starting October 1, the network commission would be applied to all orders generated in BusinessLeague. Following the feedback received, we have adjusted how it applies.

Network Commission Adjustments: Why, How, and for Whom. An Interview with Ana Oprița (CTO, 2Performant)

The additional commission will only apply to stores with an approval rate below their category average, proportionally to the difference.

To explain the decision and the direction we are heading in next, Ana Oprița, CTO at 2Performant, shares the vision behind these changes.

Ana, what was adjusted compared to the initial announcement regarding the application of the network commission to all sales generated in BusinessLeague

We acknowledge that the initial announcement came without enough context. What we have done in the meantime is adapt the announced measure.

Starting October 1, 2025, we will apply an additional network commission only to stores that have a numerical approval rate below the average of the category they belong to, and only for the percentage difference between the two values.

How does this new formula work in practice?

It is a transparent mechanism backed by platform data:

  • We calculate the store's numerical approval rate over the last 90 days (already visible in each store's profile).
  • We compare it with the category average it belongs to (also visible in the profile).
  • If the store is below the average, the network commission is applied to the difference on top of the approved network commission value from the last 30 days.

Concrete example:

  • Store approval rate: 80%
  • Category average: 86%
  • Difference: 6%
  • Approved network commission in the last 30 days: 2,000 RON
    • Applied supplement: 6% of 2,000 = 120 RON
  • Total network commission payable: 2,120 RON

In addition, we have already launched a new invoice model for postpaid advertisers, which provides a clear picture of the value generated by BusinessLeague: total sales, commissions paid, and costs per conversion. Soon, this format will also be available for prepaid advertisers. In the example below, the network commission is represented by the purple segment.

What does a low approval rate actually mean, and what are the causes?

We know that some returns are inherent and depend on the specifics of each category. However, we know just as clearly that there is room for improvement in many programs when it comes to the accuracy of product feeds, the efficiency of internal processes, and even how stores validate conversions.

It is important to remind everyone that BusinessLeague operates on a single official conversion attribution system—the one provided by the 2Performant platform and accepted through the Terms and Conditions in force. Any other approach, whether intentional or not, represents a departure from this contractual framework.

Therefore, a low approval rate does not just mean "many returns"; it also signals that the store is not operating 100% in alignment with the standards of BusinessLeague. The measures we have introduced are designed precisely to correct these imbalances.

Tell us a bit about 2Performant's vision beyond the October 1 measure

Charging a commission on generated sales for those below the category average is only the first step. What was missing from our initial communication is the entire framework of measures taking effect on January 1, 2026.

We are working on a set of initiatives that will reward real performance: stores with a good platform rating, that are long-standing clients, have considerable volumes, and build healthy collaborations with affiliates will be able to benefit from dynamic network commission adjustments, bonuses, or differentiated treatment.

The goal of this initiative is not to penalize, but to encourage improvement. Our team is here to help advertisers increase their approval rate—that is, in fact, the main objective. We provide them with visibility into relevant data, operational support, and best practices already validated by those who succeed.

We know it can be done. Stores such as Litera.ro (99.99%), Carturesti.ro (96.28%), Cupio.ro (98.18%), Petmax.ro (94.75%), Libris.ro (96.89%), Automobilus.ro (97.13%), and Agroland.ro (99.91%) are just a few examples demonstrating that high performance is perfectly achievable, regardless of industry or business size.

Ultimately, BusinessLeague is a competition that rewards effort and applies constructive pressure where needed.
