We started the business in 2018, after buying a robot vacuum and noticing there were very few accessory options available. That's when we asked ourselves if we couldn't sell them ourselves. So we started searching, testing, and improving vacuum accessories.

Our journey has been full of trials, challenges, and a lot of work. We've been constantly learning, including from our customers' experiences and needs. Looking back, I'd describe it as a continuous process of gaining experience and development..

Affiliate marketing.

We discovered affiliate marketing while looking for new ways to promote ourselves. We found a course on Udemy taught by a man with his arm in a cast, talking about affiliate marketing. It sparked my curiosity, so I went through the whole course and realized it's a very transparent and fair system, based on performance.

After finishing the course, we got in touch with 2Performant, but the first attempt didn't go very well. From what I remember, we were told we were still too small a shop, and that was disappointing. After a year or two, we tried again and ended up here.

We started with high expectations, because we trusted our products and the idea of a system where you pay for results. We had just ended a collaboration with a marketing agency, which hadn't been the best experience, and affiliate marketing seemed like a much fairer and more efficient option. So far, our expectations have largely been met.

How does affiliate marketing perform compared to other channels?

To see how well affiliate marketing works, we stopped promoting through Google, and currently over 90% of orders on paa-home.ro come through affiliate marketing.

Although most of our sales come through marketplaces, we're also constantly growing our own store. Relative to the company's total sales, about 23% come from affiliate marketing, and we thank you for that result.

Your products

We want to help customers correctly identify the right accessories for the vacuum they own. We offer accessories and consumables for vacuums, as well as other home cleaning products.

The best sellers are accessories for robot vacuums, and our goal is to become a trusted specialist in vacuum consumables and accessories.

I couldn't tell you the ingredients of a successful partnership, but I believe fairness and transparency are the most important aspects.

Challenges

We've tried a few Challenges and I think we even won one of them. Honestly, we still don't fully understand how they all work, so we don't have a favorite one at the moment. It's an area we'd like to explore more.

What advice would you give a shop joining BusinessLeague today?

Test as many forms of promotion as possible and trust in your products. If they manage to convey that trust to BusinessLeague's partners as well, the collaboration can develop in a good direction for both sides.

Why do you think shops are still reluctant to try affiliate marketing, despite the numbers?

I'll answer based on my own experience with BusinessLeague. Seen from the outside, the ecosystem can seem quite hard to understand, very strict, and full of rules. I think some information could be explained more simply and with more concrete examples.

Also, performance-based affiliate marketing still isn't well known or promoted enough in Romania, even though it can be more cost-effective for a shop than other forms of marketing.

After my first unsuccessful attempt, I walked out the door and came back in through the window, because I trusted this model. And when I attended the meeting organized in Bucharest and met the team, I was pleasantly surprised by how close-knit, involved, and open the people behind the platform are.

I think the reluctance exists because the process isn't explained simply and concretely enough. Often it's mainly the numbers that get presented, and a shop that doesn't yet know the system can become skeptical and wonder if those results are real. I think more practical examples and clear explanations would inspire more trust.

How do you see affiliate marketing long-term?

I believe strongly in performance-based affiliate marketing and think it represents the future. Unlike other marketing channels, where you pay for visibility without knowing if you'll get sales, in affiliate marketing you pay when you get the order — that is, when you sell.

For the rest of the year, we aim to expand our product range and constantly improve the experience offered on the site.

Within BusinessLeague, our goal is to add as many products as possible, so our affiliates have a more varied range and more promotional opportunities.
