Elena Turcu: Affiliate marketing only becomes simple once you learn and invest

Background

Before doing what I do today, I worked in the home & decor field. I caught the exact golden era of print, as well as its decline. That's also when I discovered online, today's reach or virality. This world gave me the opportunity to get acquainted with journalism, marketing, and sales — three areas that couldn't function without one another. Today, about 10-12 years later, I've kept a little of each, in a different form. I have a tiny salon, because I reoriented myself — I felt the need to reinvent — but it still needs marketing to survive; I collaborate with a motorcycling association, and even though I don't own a two-wheeled vehicle, I've come to like it more and more, because it reminds me of teamwork and the bustle of the newsroom and deadlines. And last but not least, 2Performant — sales, which drew me in, because for the first time "selling" felt much simpler than it ever had before. Obviously, it becomes simple after a while, after you learn and invest some money and time.

How would you describe BusinessLeague in a single sentence/phrase? Money without too much hassle 🫣

What's your favorite Challenge on the platform and why?
SpeedRun. It's the challenge that resembles a rally the most.

Which stores do you work best with on the platform, and what are the ingredients of that success?
Since I joined this group quite late — last year, I'd say — I started collaborating with smaller stores, from as diverse fields as possible: beauty, sporting goods, construction, bookstores, etc. It didn't bother me at all — in fact, I saw it as an opportunity, because while others were focused on catching the "big fish," I took care of the others, who also, in turn, needed attention and time to grow. Besides the material satisfaction, I also get the joy of seeing that in a given month, store X got Y sales through me. Among the Home & Garden ones, fara-daunatori.ro and micul-meserias.ro are, without a doubt, top of my list.

Favorite stat
Without question, the growth I had during Black Friday.

Why is there still reluctance toward affiliate marketing on the part of shops?
Most likely the fact that they don't have enough information, and the fear of losing money.

How do you see affiliate marketing in the medium and long term?
In the medium term, a reliable way to generate commissions and profit. In the long term... it seems to me that a lot of changes are happening — seemingly small, seemingly unnoticeable, but ones that can have a serious long-term impact. The rise of artificial intelligence could be a big advantage for small businesses. It can genuinely be an important tool in the hands of someone who knows how to use it.
